OverDrive is a service offered by your library or school that lets you borrow digital content (like ebooks and audiobooks) anytime, anywhere. Every OverDrive collection is slightly different because each library or school picks the digital content they want for their users

Notice from SORA:

Due to a policy change, we are no longer hosting the free Sora Starter platforms.  If a district wants a Marketplace to purchase content for their students, run reports, customize the Sora Explore tab, and more, then it will be a $500 minimum for Sora Starters ($0 free platforms) and NEW contracts.  This does not impact schools that we already do renewals for.  

If a school that is a free Sora Starter does not want to pay the minimum, they will lose access to their personal Marketplace BUT will maintain access to sign into Eastern Suffolk BOCES, LI Students Read, and NY Reads.  They do not lose access to your libraries. If they are connected to their Public Library, they do not lose access to them either.

OverDrive has also instituted a change in our content credit policy. 

What’s Changed:

  • Content credit purchased before July 1, 2024 must be spent by June 30, 2026. 
    • Schools that this affects received emails letting them know of their funds that are 1+ years older. 
    • OverDrive is happy to work with them on using these funds before the deadline to support their unique student interests and literacy needs.

Content credit purchased during the school year must be spent by the end of the following school year.
